This is a 1x day Pregnancy & Postnatal CPD course, designed with the therapist in mind.
Course Summary
Pregnancy and the postpartum period represent some of the most significant biomechanical and physiological shifts a human body can experience. For the manual therapist, these changes require a specialised lens—moving beyond general care into targeted, evidence-based intervention.
This intensive 1-day course is designed to bridge the gap between clinical theory and hands-on practice. We delve deep into the “Motherhood Transition,” equipping you with the skills to identify, manage, and treat common musculoskeletal presentations while providing safe, effective exercise and lifestyle prescriptions.
What You Will Master
1. Biomechanical & Postural Evolution
Understand the shift in the centre of gravity and the systemic physical changes that occur from the first trimester through to the “fourth trimester.” We break down postural adaptations and how they impact the kinetic chain.
2. Advanced MSK Identification & Management
Learn to confidently screen for and manage the most common pregnancy-related conditions:
Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP): Evidence-based assessment and stabilisation strategies.
Diastasis Recti (DRAM): Understanding fascial tension, healing, and core modification.
Pelvic Floor Dysfunction: Recognising the signs of stress, hypertonicity, and trauma post-birth.
3. Integrated Pelvic Health
Demystify the pelvic floor. You will learn how pregnancy and delivery impact pelvic integrity and, crucially, how to integrate pelvic floor and core re-education into a broader fitness or rehabilitation programme.
4. Exercise Prescription & Modification
Move beyond “don’t lie on your back.” Gain a toolkit of safe, effective exercises for every stage of pregnancy and the postnatal recovery journey. Learn how to adapt training loads and movements to support, rather than strain, the changing body.
5. Clinical Red Flags & Referrals
Know exactly when a presentation falls outside your scope. We provide a clear framework for identifying risk factors and physical problems that require referral to specialised pelvic health physiotherapists or medical professionals.
Why Join This Course?
Manual therapists are often the first point of contact for pregnant women in pain. This course ensures you aren’t just “treating around” the pregnancy, but actively supporting the patient through it with confidence and clinical precision.
Evidence-Based: All content is grounded in the latest pelvic health and obstetric research.
Practical Focus: Designed for immediate “Monday morning” application in your clinic or studio.
Expert Guidance: Learn how to provide the advice and treatments that build lifelong trust with your maternal patient base.
